Favorite Small Things: July 2023

As per usual, words only where necessary.

The Soda Machine with all the Options

Soda Machine with Options

Raspberry, lime, vanilla, cherry, cherry vanilla, added to all of these drink possibilities. It’s the highlight of my week.

This Sunday, I went to the counter, asked for my cup and was told there’s no more fountain soda because the machine is always breaking.

So, so sad. I filled out my comment card and deposited in the box. Please bring it back.

StepBet

In June, I mentioned that I was earning $5 gift cards for walking steps through Cashwalk (<- affiliate link). I’ve now earned $20 in only one month from that app!

Now I’ve found another. It’s called StepBet, and what you do is bet money, $40, that you will meet a given number of steps for six days out of each week for six weeks. If you succeed, you get your money back plus you win a small sum. I’m on week five going strong. Losing $40 is good motivation to exercise.

A Gluten Free S’mores Cupcake

Cakebox GF Smores Cupcake

This S’mores cupcake got even better when I realized there was gooey marshmallow in the middle.

I was in Ridgefield, Connecticut picking up an old mini tube television for my eBay store when I stumbled upon Cake Box. If you go, be sure to also visit the Ridgefield Thrift Shop, apparently in existence since 1937, which is one of my favorites in recent memory. It’s so popular that the volunteers yell last call 15 minutes before closing.

A Berry with Tendrils

Mystery Berry

Four Canoes On Top of a Car

Covid may be over, but I’m still entertained by things hanging from cars. Admittedly, not as much, but nonetheless still photo worthy.

Unfortunate Signs

Perhaps these could be replaced with horizontal signs that don’t break up the motivational word into three nonsensical parts with no dashes at places where there are no natural breaks?

  1. I need that cupcake omgggg. I had a GF chocolate cupcake the other night I had been saving for weeks in my freezer. Yours looks better.

I am loving this walking to earn money thing! When I go running I try to find dropped change, and then I tell myself I’m getting paid to run. My most recent haul a few weeks ago was a quarter AND a dime!

    1. The cupcake was serious good. That bakery was a wonderful find. I have a delicious place near me, but I’m used to it, so it’s nice to find a new place with options and new ingredients.

Love the quarter and dime. This is the best feeling! These apps are making me so happy. If I finish out next week, my sixth week, I will get my $40 back and maybe $8 more. So excited. 🙂

I’ve been meaning to comment on your last post about Little—so adorable. I just had so much to say (my cat has the same affliction) that I left it to come back to. Coming back to it!

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  2. I really love the first two photos (the freedom of the plunger!!!!) and the 3rd one makes me go OMG. I an such an indecisive person, I’d be there all day choosing 🙈 Not for me! I can already hear the sighs of all the people waiting in line behind me 😃

    1. Ha! I know what you mean. The options generally overwhelm me, but now that I think of it, I’ve only strayed from my usual once when I chose cherry vanilla to add to my Diet Coke instead of raspberry. I was feeling adventurous. So maybe it’s not the options I like, it’s just the raspberry in the Diet Coke.

Thank you so much for reading and stopping by. 🙂

    1. It must have been a joke? Although someone left an ac unit on the radiator downstairs in my building with a sign that said “FREE not working.” So it’s just never clear.

      Thanks for stopping by!
